the Uncharted Seas are on the horizon

YAY MY PACKAGE ARRIVED!!!
with the closing down of Mini War Gaming's online store i managed to procure the rule book and 4 starter sets of the Uncharted Seas for dirt dirt cheap. i am  so psyched for them that the current painting table projects might get pushed aside for the next two weeks (but not the mighty empires stuff, that's so easy to paint on the side) as i set about getting them ready for a test game. the rules for them seem so so easy i feel its going to be a really good game to just pick up and play with, as you get 90% of what you really need in the starter kits. so in two weeks time i will bring the painted armadas in for a maiden voyage. anyone keen on  joining in the game. i have the BONE GRIFFONS, otherwise known as the undead lords of the plague, the THANIRAS ELVES, with their swift craft and masteries of the magical arts , the DRAGON LORDS, oldest of the great empires and true rulers of the new world, or the IRON DWARFS, master engineers and tenacious warriors in their ships of iron.

TAMURKHAN ARISING!

in three weeks time the heavens over the old world will start to split, and spew forth the denizens of the other world. the world of chaos will fall to herald his arrival, and the world will tremble like never before. Nurgle's chosen will tear down your great empires and lay low your armies, for he is in ascendance, and all will fear him!

welcome one and all to the (almost) start to the Tamurkhan Warhammer campaign that will start in 3 weeks(ish) time at the Kapiti Wargaming Club. since i have almost completed my mighty empires kit we are going to do it in style. if i remember rightly their are 6 or 8 empire banners in the kit (im not currently at home but house sitting for my brother while he is on his honeymoon in Niue) so will be looking for others to participate in the 6 week campaign. i think i can already count Sam, Fern and Hamish in. i was thinking we should also allow units from the Tamurkhan and Monstrous Arcanum books just to add a bit of spice to the procedings. also i will try to get everyone playing a different faction so we have a good bit of variety in the games. anything I've missed?

The Studio

OK since i started the blog to encourage myself to do more painting i thought i should do a post on just that topic. i have currently tidied up the paint station and so have left the two current projects to complete by the end of next week. if i can keep my scheduled i will know i can finally get my orcs and gobbos done before the horned rat in June. so i present the work in progress of...

THE CULT OF VULKAN
my chaos warriors are going for a lava theme, their bodies are actually a molten core held together by will and the black iron of their armour, but even that is cracking under the heat and pressure
these are just the work in progress shots, so far the armour has been painted leadbelcher and washed four times with nuln oil. im currently painting on the freehand fissures all over the armour. in the end they should look like the test piece i did
the cloak is ment to look like ash rising up from a fire (hence the attempt at a subtle red glow on the bottom of the cloak). i have also decided that the fur is going to change to a dark grey to represent an ash cload.

also on the painting table is a completely opposite set of colour palettes. meet the SISTERS OF SILENCE, a mordheim sisters of sigmar warband i have had sitting their for the longest time. bright/pure colours were my thoughts, so a bright blue and then off white for the cloaks maybe offset by a darker metal with bright edge highlights?
as you can see i also have one of the classic ogre mercenaries on the go. hes going to be mainly neutral browns, so he can blend with any war band.
if you have any thoughts on how i could improve upon my colour scheme please leave a comment, its always good to get advice
